Chairman’s Report
Councillor Hunt reported on the progress of the Parish over the preceding twelve months. He noted the numerous developments that had taken place including:-
The work that had been undertaken by highways to bring about traffic calming on the Brent road.
The formation of a new Self Help Group to deal with local flooding.
The completion of the Higher Moor development
Work to deal with those who permit their dogs to foul roads and footpaths.
The construction of the Play Park in Avonwick
A group is exploring the possibility of constructing a new Parish Hall
New road signs at each of our villages put in place by the AONB with the support of District Councillor Steer and ex County Councillor Black.
Councillor Hunt also detailed some of the work of Councillors in dealing with applications for the construction of Solar Farms and Wind turbines although these both took place outside the Parish. He mentioned the fact that the strong statements made at Parish Cluster meetings by Councillors, concerning their belief that the South Hams District Council does not listen to the views of Parish Councillors, did not go unnoticed.
Councillor Hunt thanked the councillors for their work during the year and paid tribute to the clerk for his unpaid work behind the scenes.
Feoffees Report
Councillor Seager-Berry reported that the trustees of North Huish Feofees, Bowden and Perring Charity – Mr John Hall Chairman, Mrs Janet Cousins Secretary/Treasurer, Mr Mike Bradley, Mrs Maggie Luscombe, Cmdr. Andrew Mitchell, Mrs Valerie Pearse and Mrs Marigold Seager-Berry met twice in 2013. In August there were letters of thanks from those who had received a distribution of money at Christmas. This was given to help with the expenses following the flooding of houses along the river Avon in 2012. Prior to Christmas the trust met to allocate funds to three families.
Some money was held back to pay for a new gate and posts at St Mary Park, the field the trust owns at North Huish. The rent from this field gives the trust the main funds for distribution in the Parish.
