Please noteEvery care has been taken to present this accessible copy of the minutes with accuracy, but the formal record of the meeting remains the signed paper copy of the minutes.

The Council was informed of a recent request from the brother of a deceased parishioner of North Huish for permission for the burial of the deceased’s ashes to be made in the graveyard of St Mary’s Church, North Huish. It was explained to the applicant that this request fell outside the remit of the Parish Council. Contact was made with the Rev. Sayle of Diptford who agreed to take this request to the Parochial Church Council for consideration. Because the graveyard at St Mary’s Church is now closed it was not possible for the PCC to grant the requested permission. It was suggested that the PCC should be approached to ask them to consider the possibility of Parishioners placing a small plaque in remembrance of their deceased relatives in an appropriate location within the churchyard. Action clerk.

The temporary speed limit for road works applied to the road between South Brent and the Woodpecker was questioned by parishioners. The limit has been in place now for a number of weeks and no apparent work seems to have been undertaken. Action clerk.

The accumulation of litter at the side of the slip road from the shell garage towards South Brent needs attention. Action clerk.

The MINUTES of the meeting held on 2nd October 2018 were confirmed and signed. Proposed Cllr. Hunt seconded Cllr. Bell

The Council was asked to supply quotations for the repair of the Cobbly Walk sign to Councillors Steer and Hosking who would then provide the necessary finance. Action clerk.

Cllr.Hosking informed the Council that funding had been made available for further work to repair potholes. He also explained to the Council how the Highways department decided on the appropriate location for mobile flashing “slow” signs. Cllr. Hosking would pass on the Council’s request for the relocation of the 30mph sign on the North Huish road at Avonwick to the appropriate officer.

Cllr. Steer reported on the large number of planning applications before the District Council. He described the development being undertaken at Sparkwell which had favourably impressed him. He also told the Council of the request for another large development on the Cornwood road in Ivybridge.

Cllr. Bell left the room. The Council gave its approval to a request for an Agricultural Building at Higher Clunkamoor, Diptford.

Specific items of CORRESPONDENCE were noted as follows:

Modifications to the Plymouth and South West Devon local plan. It was noted that these have no direct bearing on the parish.

Community Fund Diptford. It was felt that the purchase of another flashing “slow” sign would not be of any use to the Parish as there is nowhere within the Parish that it would be likely to be approved for use.

Burcombe Haulage: The company informed the Council that its lorries would not use the Totnes road from Avonwick during night hours.
